Dimitar Lukanov Studio
I do transparent sculptures that converse with nature. They are not in competition with the landscape or standing against it, but rather a peaceful continuation, an “air-full” addition to the wind, soil, clouds, sky, etc. The work I create never appears the same. It differs with each instant of the day and night; it absorbs the passage of time – seasons, light and darkness, all surroundings. The end result is an abbreviated script of matter dissolved within the air. My sculpture is not concerned with how much space it needs, but how it more freely and naturally complement the rest of what is around it. To live within nature.
Dimitar Lukanov
Upon approach of a public art project we aim for creating a veritable “anima locus”, soul of location. We bring our expertise in creating public work as diverse as NYC’s JFK Terminal 4 Sculpture commission, which consists of three monumental and vastly different pieces and Mexico’s “Salto de Agua”. The former is a key element to the major redevelopment of Terminal 4 as it accommodates 16 million passengers per year; the latter is situated in Mexico’s easternmost point by the Caribbean Sea. One location is saturated by nature, the other, by the ultimate urbanism. Both projects have become iconic with their presence, and were executed strictly on schedule, and budget, and substantiated continuous cooperation with governmental and city agencies of all levels as well as local communities.
Dimitar Lukanov Studio is a full practice sculpture studio with experienced and dedicated – in fabrication, handling and delivery of artwork – professionals. Our goal is not only to create utterly unique pieces but also to excel in their fabrication. We look forward to initiate and enhance the dialogue and interaction amongst the viewer, the environment and that “anima focus”, the one-of-a-kind sculptural presence. We strive for a sculpture that will initiate and inspire contemplative experience and renewed energy; sculpture as a true partner of space, a bona fide destination within destination
